Carter had quite the eventful birthday this year. It was an important birthday for him, he turned 8 years old! His baptism was a month later in May which I’ll post more on later. For his birthday we decided to plan a fun weekend since his birthday fell on a Saturday.
The day before his birthday I made cupcakes and took them to his class for his friends to enjoy with him.
Later that day when Chris got home from work we headed down to San Diego for the night. We had accumulated some hotel points and used them for a free night in Carlsbad. We all went to dinner at PF Chang’s that night where we sang Happy Birthday to Carter!
Chris had used some connections through an old colleague of his from Odwalla to get us FREE tickets to Lego Land. Carter had been wanting to go to Lego land for a long time and was so excited to be able to go finally.
The kids loved all the different things made out of Legos throughout the park. It is pretty amazing. To any Lego fanatic it is a must see. However, the rides were less than thrilling. The kids were in heaven being surrounded by Legos all day. I wouldn’t recommend going to Lego Land unless you are a Lego fanatic and can appreciate all the neat things built out of Legos, other than that you might as well be at the fair!
There was one ride that we thought was pretty cool. It was a little network of roads that you could drive a Lego car on. I thought that was really cool. How many times did you think when you were a kid how cool it would be if the Autopia cars at Disneyland were not on a track? Well these cars were not on a track and you could drive them through a little mini city. There were working stop lights and they had to yield to other drivers which was pretty neat.
We were all so fascinated by this life-sized car made completely out of Legos.
Carter got his birthday pin, so everyone knew it was his special day.
Probably the coolest part of Lego land was the Lego City USA. It was simply amazing. You have to see it in person to appreciate it. It has a Lego replica of Las Vegas, New York and other fun places in the US. I could have spent an hour looking at all the detail there.
We had an awesome day at Lego Land and Carter Loved it! The other kids were pleased they got to enjoy his birthday present as well!
Carter’s birthday was far from over. A few months prior Chris had discovered that the Clippers were playing the Kings on Carter’s birthday. Carter is a huge Jimmer fan (He has the entire “Teach me how to Jimmer” song memorized) and Chris just had to get tickets. Since Red Bull is a big Clipper sponsor this year Chris pulled some strings and got 4 AMAZING seats for us! I was a little worried how we were going to pull Lego Land and Staples Center off in one day but we did it and it was so worth it! We left Lego Land at about 2pm and drove home. We dropped the kids off with Aunt Amanda and Uncle Chris joined us and we drove to the game.
I had never been to an NBA game before so I was pretty amazed by it all. I couldn’t believe how small everything looked in person (except the players, they looked huge!) The court seems so much bigger on TV. I sent Carter a message on the score board you can see below.
As I mentioned before we had amazing seats. We were on row 3, behind all the floor seats. It was pretty cool and we felt spoiled.
We really hoped we get to meet Jimmer or get his autograph but there wasn’t an opportunity to. We noticed Jimmer’s brother TJ a few rows back and Carter went over to meet him. We told him, if we couldn’t meet Jimmer, meeting his brother would be the next best thing. He was super friendly and flattered.
Jimmer did great and Carter had a great time watching his favorite basketball player up close and personal. What an awesome birthday that kid had!
