Red Bull Flugtag

One of the perks of Chris working for Red Bull is when we get to go to events that they put on.  Red Bull does a great job hosting their events and we are so lucky we get to go to the VIP area.  The Flugtag event is held across the country at several locations on the same day.  (Flugtag means Flight Day in German) This one was held in Long Beach right on the water.  Groups of people create some sort of non motorized air craft.  They take off a ramp over the water and see how far it will fly.  They really get into the theatrics with costumes and themes and it can be really fun.  The kids had a great time going to this event.  Red Bull rented out Parkers Lighthouse which provided the best views of the competition and some amazing food while we waited.  The kids had a blast and I don’t even want to know how many refills of soda they got during the day!  Chris was a little nervous bringing all 4 kids but they were on their best behavior, most of the time!

We had an amazing view from the restaurant patio.  The kids even went out and sat on the rocks below it at one point.

We had an awesome time and it was great because one of the teams even broke the world record!  Here is a short video of their flight.  What a fun event!  I hope they do it in Long Beach again!
The girls took a picture with the Clipper girls who were there at the restaurant.  The boys were too embarrassed!

Field Trip to Getty Villa

I try to go on at least one field trip with each child during the school year.  Since I have Libby at home still it’s a bit of a challenge but luckily my Mom is able to help take care of her when I go on these field trips.  One of my favorite field trips was this one, with Carter.  We went with the GATE students to the Getty Villa which is in beautiful Malibu, right next to the ocean.  It was absolutely stunning, and the weather was perfect that day.

It was fascinating to see the Ancient Roman and Greek art there.  Carter was fascinated as the guide told us stories about the Roman and Greek Gods depicted in the art.  He has since really gotten into Greek Mythology and even got a book about it for Christmas and read it cover to cover.  He is also really into the Lost Hero series and Percy Jackson series.  He’s quite the expert now, I can’t help but think this field trip helped spark his interest!

Since the weather was so beautiful we really enjoyed the gardens and seeing all the different plant life there.  I loved the Getty Villa so much that I am planning on taking the kids there next Summer!

Sawyer’s 7th Birthday

Sawyer’s Birthday fell on a Sunday this year.  We had his cousins, Brady and Coleman over for his birthday dinner.  The following day was Labor day so it worked out perfect to celebrate his special day.

We all went to Kick Back Jacks as a family for Sawyer’s birthday breakfast.  One of the things that Sawyer really wanted for his birthday was to spend the day alone with Chris and I.

After breakfast we left the other kids at home (yay for having a built in babysitter!) and headed out to go shopping with Sawyers money and gift cards.

We went to Target and Ontario Mills.  Sawyer was very happy with his purchases.  He got a Tennis Racquet and a new Lego set, amongst other things.

He chose to go to Fuddruckers with us for his birthday dinner.  It was so much fun spending his special day all alone with him.  We are so proud of Sawyer and how much he has grown.  He is full of life, and brings lots of love to our home.  One of the things I love about Sawyer is how much he dotes over his little sister, Libby.  He is the best brother to her and will do anything for her.  Sawyer is so loveable and is always ready to hug or cuddle with me.  He is growing up so fast!
