Okay so this post is a bit outdated but I realized I never posted these pictures. Our kids finished school on May 25 (I know super early for California, but we start super early too.)
Carter’s teacher hosted a “Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad” event early in the morning before school started. It was fun watching him interact with his classmates. He enjoyed having us in the classroom with us. Chris was unfortunately out of town and didn’t make it.
Sawyer finished his first year of Preschool and had a fun picnic. He had a great year and has grown a lot but Chris and I have decided that he would benefit from another year of preschool before going to Kindergarten so he will have his same teacher next year and will be almost 6 when he starts Kindergarten in 2012. I’m okay with that because I know he will have so much of an advantage being one of the older children in his class.
Sawyer is telling me here to stop looking at him.
Libby also enjoyed Sawyer’s Preschool picnic in the park. She has become quite the swing lover. She also enjoyed chowing down on some pizza with the big kids. It kills me how much she is growing up!
Both Maddie and Carter had awards assemblies the last week of school. Maddie received honor roll. She worked so hard this year and REALLY wanted to make principal’s honor roll (which is straight ‘A’s) but she ended up getting one ‘B’. She was pretty bummed. She really puts a lot of pressure on herself, I honestly never worked as hard as she does at her age. She did her homework EVERY day without me telling her to, the ENTIRE year! And she had a lot of homework, fourth grade was quite a jump!
Carter received a writing award and a Math award. He continues to excel in all he does. I was a little frustrated with his situation this year as he was in a Kinder/1st combo as a 1st grader. He was put there because he can work independently and is well behaved but it was definitely not an advantage to him and he got very bored. I feel like he really lost a lot of valuable time this year that he would have gotten in a regular 1st grade class. After multiple requests to have him moved our principal wouldn’t budge.
I can’t believe my kids will be back in school in 5 weeks. It’s going to be a little bit bittersweet because we are transferring them to a different school in our district. I feel it will be a better school for them, it has much better API test scores and I feel like my kids will be challenged more there. They are actually okay with it, but I think when it the first day of school is upon us they will be nervous and sad to not be with their friends. I just hope they make friends quickly and that it isn’t too hard of an adjustment. One plus is that school starts at 8:30 instead of 8:00.
