If you know Maddie, you know she LOVES theatre. She has been part of a few productions but was always one of 50 on stage. She learned a lot about and more than anything learned that it was something she really wanted to pursue. Since Libby was born I hadn’t put her in anything theatre related since the schedules are pretty busy. Well I happened to be browsing the internet a couple months ago and noticed that our city community theatre’s summer production was going to be Annie and auditions were coming up! Maddie has always loved Annie and dreams of one day being Annie in a play. So she prepped herself and got ready for the audition which was last Saturday. I was pretty nervous for Maddie since there were some really talented looking girls I could tell they had all done this before. The mom’s were all very seasoned as well! I told Maddie that even if she didn’t get a part it would be a great experience for her to go through the auditioning process. She sang “There’s no Business like Show Business” and learned a short dance routine to “Hard Knock Life”. We were completely surprised when that afternoon we got an email for a call back! They wanted her to read for the part of Molly. She was excited and ready on Tuesday and got to read lines and sing again. It was so nerve racking waiting with all the other parents and feeling nervous for her not knowing what was going on. They kept calling in different groups of girls and we had no idea what they were doing. Then they finally told us to all go home. The next day we were told we’d get an email if our daughter got a part. So checked my email all day and just as I was leaving to go to work I checked my phone and there was an email. I was so excited for her when the first line read, “Congratulations!” My heart leaped for joy because I knew how bad Maddie wanted this. Then I continued reading and it said that she had gotten the part of Tessie. I was a bit surprised because she read for Molly but nonetheless we were so excited for her! (Tessie is the whinny one says, “"Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness” all the time. (I think she’s a perfect fit cause she likes to whine)
We had her first rehearsal and parent meeting today. She felt so honored to have been chosen. Out of 65 girls only 7 were chosen as lead orphans and 6 more were chosen to be ensemble orphans. Maddie is very excited to be performing at the Lewis Family Playhouse which is located at the Victoria Gardens cultural center. I am just so proud of her, she worked hard and she landed a great role! Wait to go Maddie! Many more great things to come from her for sure.
