October is always one of my most favorite months. I love when the weather starts to cool and I can start making soup for dinner again. I love Halloween costumes, trick or treating, candy corn and it’s the best time of year to go to Disneyland. Here is a recap of our busy October.
Meeting Rapunzel
A girl in our ward works at Disneyland as Rapunzel and I have always wanted to take Libby to see her there. I had scheduled a mystery shop and happened to ask her at church on Sunday if she’d be working that day. It turned out she was and we set up a time when Libby would be able to come meet her. When I told Libby we were going to meet Rapunzel she was so excited. She wanted to wear her “Rapunzel” princess dress. After spending the morning on my shops and going on a couple rides, we headed over to Rapunzel’s tower to meet her.
The Cast Member took us through the back entrance and took us into the most adorable room that looks just like her tower. The doors were shut so no other guests were there. She spent about 15 minutes alone with Libby and it was simply Magical. Flynn was also there and they were just adorable together! She tried her crown on Libby and got out her paint brushes out and they painted the walls together.
It was a magical day for Libby! How lucky we are to know one of the Disney princesses at church ;) After we left Rapunzel I noticed Libby had a faint kiss left on her cheek from Rapunzel.
St. George Marathon
This was Chris’ second year doing the St. George Marathon. He did an amazing job and we are so proud of him. He beat his last year time by 15 minutes and finished strong. He’s an old pro now! What an inspiration he is to our kids and myself. Chris can do anything he puts his mind to. Chris has inspired both Carter and myself to run and I’m so grateful for that.
Those 26.2 miles didn’t come without consequence. Chris had this lovely blister on his big toe after the race. He also had a blister inside his ear canal from his headphones!
While Chris rested back at the hotel, I took the kids to see Brigham Young’s Summer home. I had never been there before so it was a fun treat to visit. I love all the historical homes in the area with beautiful mature trees around them. Inside the home were original furnishings which were beautiful. I’m always amazed at how small the beds were in the old days. We have such big beds now a days.
We also visited the St. George Temple. What a magnificent structure it is! I love how crisp white it is and it looks so lovely with the red rocks nearby. We went inside the visitors center for a little while and the kids enjoyed seeing the Christus.
After we got back to the Hotel we got Chris out of bed and went to Brick Oven for a late lunch/early dinner. The boys enjoyed frosty Root beer and I enjoyed their famous chicken noodle soup. We still think the one in Provo tastes better. We had a wonderful time in St. George and can’t wait to come back next year!
Random stuff
Here are some random shots this month that I thought were blog worthy.
While waiting for Maddie at dance in Fontana the boys flagged down an ice cream truck because I actually had cash in the car to buy them ice cream.
I took this silly picture one night of Libby and Maddie sleeping. (I turned Libby around after I took the picture)
Libby loves it when I go to a grocery store that has kids shopping carts. She is such a little helper and is having a great time being the only kid at home while the other ones are at school.
Another Day at Disney
I can’t get enough of Disneyland in the fall time. The weather is cooler and the crowds have died down a little. Sawyer played hooky from school this day because Grammy was out of town so she couldn’t pick him up at noon. I ended up just taking him out of school and he spent the day with Libby and I at Disneyland.
Noodle Factory Tour
I don’t get to go on the kids school field trips very often because of Libby being home and me working. So when I do get to go, it is a treat. Carter’s class got to go on a Noodle Factory tour and it worked out that I could go! It was such a fun field trip, I was so glad I got to go. Here is a picture of us on the short bus ride over. (It was only about 6 miles away)
Once we arrived we were instructed to put on special protective clothing to wear throughout the tour. The employees wouldn’t let me take pictures but I snuck a few.
The tour was fascinating! I really enjoyed watching how they make noodles. At the end of the tour the kids all went home with a huge bag of food. They were all so excited to get free stuff. To Carter’s disappointment, it all tasted pretty nasty. We’ll stick with our Nissin Top Ramen.
Halloween
This year for Halloween we really went all out! The kids have been asking to do a matching family theme for our costumes for a few years now but it never really works out. This year a Harry Potter theme seemed to be in everyone’s favor and since Libby was still too young to really understand that she gets to pick her own costume she went along with being an owl, and a cute one at that!
I even got in on the action and dressed up as Professor McGonagall. Here we are all ready for the ward Harvest Festival.
We even decorated our trunk with a Hogwarts theme and had Harry Potter music playing in our van.
After the trunk or treat the kids poured out all their candy and bartered with each other.
The day before Halloween we carved our pumpkins. In California it is too warm to carve them any earlier than that, unless you want a moldy pumpkin.
Libby was pretty grossed out by the pumpkin guts but was all smiles when her pumpkin was all finished and lit.
Being so close to election day, Sawyer volunteered to have his pumpkin bear the Mitt Romney logo. He was proud!

Halloween morning the kids got all ready for school in their costumes. Libby even dressed up and made it into the yearbook!

Later that night we took our pumpkins over to Grammy and Grampys and did our trick or treating in their neighborhood.
We had a fabulous Halloween this year! I don’t know how we are going to top this next year!
