March 2013

March was a busy month with Soccer, Easter and Spring Break.  We had a wonderful Spring, here are some of the highlights of this month.
Soccer x 3
All three of our oldest played Soccer this spring and it was busy!  With 6 practices and 3 games each week we were running all over the place every day it seemed.
Sawyer played on the Tiger Sharks team and had the same uniform as his team last year.  I love this color because you can find him in a large crowd!  He did excellent this year and really got into it.  He was very aggressive and even scored some goals.  I was proud of my little guy out there giving 110%. He had an excellent coach who was only 20 years old.  He really got into it and the boys loved him.  I loved having my new camera to take pictures this season and the zoom lens was great!

After every game the boys run through the parent tunnel which is a big highlight for them!

I snapped this great picture of Libby on the sidelines one game.  She was eating some cuties while watching the game.  It has become one of my very favorite pictures.

Carter was on the Fiery Dragons and had a great season.  This was his first year playing in U-10 which is a division for 9-10 year olds.  He really stepped it up and held his own, even though he was one of the youngest players on his team.  He actually played goalie quite a bit because he volunteered at the beginning of the season and ended up hating it.   He likes to be right where the action is at all times.  He played goalie at least 1 quarter for almost every game.  Carter is so athletic and is excellent at anything he plays.  He always gives his all.

Maddie hadn’t played soccer in a year and a half and decided to give it a try again.  Her team was called 12 Directions.  (Something to do with the boy band one direction.)  This was her first time playing in U-12 so they were playing on a much bigger field and with a much bigger goal.  She did very well and worked hard the entire season.  Her coached really pushed her and made her work hard.

Spring Break
Aquarium of the Pacific
The kids have Spring Break in March.  I tried to plan some fun things to do during this week to keep them busy.  One day Grammy and I took them to the Long Beach Aquarium.  They go there often as Grammy and Grampy have annual passes and take their grandkids when they get the chance.

The kids love the outside area and the shark lagoon where they get to pet several different types of sharks.

Sawyer got a little bit wet while petting the sharks and then decided to wash off in the play area with water.

The penguin exhibit is always a fun one to watch.  It is so much fun to watch the penguins swim below the surface of the water.

My favorite part of the aquarium is seeing all the beautiful brightly colored fish.  This beautiful world below the surface is so fascinating to me.

Disneyland
Several times a year we all go to Disneyland as a family. I am the only one who has an annual pass but I save my tickets from my mystery shops and then we all go together when the kids have a break from school.  Our kids have their Spring Break earlier than most so its not to crowded at Disneyland.  Here are some photos from our fun day!

Libby still has to sit a few rides out so I got to watch the kids and Chris go on Grizzly River Run. Thanks to my zoom lens I got a nice picture of them on the raft.  The kids love this ride and the boys ended up soaked.  I’m kinda glad Libby’s not tall enough and I get to sit this ride out!

A visit to Disneyland is not complete without a ride on the carousel.  Maddie loves the Julie Andrews horse and tries to pick it each time.  This time she got lucky!

It’s always a treat when Daddy takes the day off of work and goes to Disneyland with us!  Libby especially enjoyed riding the carousel with him.

Our short little Maddie is finally tall enough to drive an Autopia car all by  herself.  She was over the moon.  She looks a little confused in this picture at the end of the ride.  I asked her if she liked it and she said, “Man those pedals are hard to push!”  Hence the reason for the height requirement!

Grampy’s Birthday
Every year Grampy’s birthday is during our Spring break so we pack up the kids and bring them all into his classroom for a little birthday celebration.  Each year he acts surprised but he knows its coming!  This year he turned 60, so he’s officially an old man!  Mom and I made cupcakes and brought balloons.  Kristy met us there and the kids were adored by all the high school students.

Easter
The kids were up bright and early to find their Easter baskets this year.  Our tradition is that they follow a string that is tied to their bed until they reach the hiding place where the Easter Bunny has hidden their baskets.

As you can see the boys had their Spring hair cuts which look a little short, especially Carter.  It’s the only hair cut I do well!

They weren’t being very cooperative so this was the best I could get of them all together.

We went over to Grammy and Grampys for a nice Easter dinner and our traditional Easter egg hunt.  Grampy always over does it on the eggs.  He hid lots of money and candy inside the eggs and these kids were loaded by the time they finished.

Awards Assembly
Each Trimester the school puts on an Awards assembly where the children are recognized for their achievements.  They both do extremely well and I am so proud of them!

Libby got to go up with Maddie when she got her award.  She is such a cool big sister!

Carter was recognized for scoring a perfect score of 600 on the language arts portion of the state testing this past year.  They even had his teacher from last year come forward to present it to him.  There were only a handful of students in the entire school that received this award.
